YAY....we got the signs done for GNEW and i was given the template for the first scroll I get to do for an AOA. It is nice that my first official calligraphy project is for someone that I know so I am stoked!

Then afterward, I got to hangout with mollyrazor and her hubby...then lady_tease and gaiusc joined us and the boys went shopping and grilled dinner, YUMMY. It was nice to be able to actually hangout with molly out side of SCA stuff....the only downer was she is on call this weekend and of course since we were having a good time, something broke and they had to page her to fix it. No wonder work makes her loopy. ON call SUCKS!!!

It was a nice way to unwind and really made my weekend. Amazing how something as simple as dinner and hanging out can be JUST what I needed. I love my friends they are the best

09:17 pm - montreal/kinetik: Friday

We went to the Biodome Friday afternoon; the bird exhibition was more art-oriented, and though they gave us bird-watching lists, I didn't see many. Puffins are my favourite birds...

a couple more Biodome shots... )

We got to Kinetik as Memmaker was on stage, so I got photos of them and Funker Vogt... )

03:48 am - I am ready too early

In latex for the fetish night tonight... but doing dinner and an art opening before. Already in latex and it's still daylight... it feels weird.

In other news brunch with unlimited mimosas makes my day... a little hazy. It was fun but I totally have the desire to watch cable with friends until I pass out. I am so lame I know. There are adventures ahead of me and I dream of television. Poop to me.

05:57 pm - Apnea nad Lithium Picnic in NH

Last night I spent the evening at a talk given by Apnea, with special guest Philip Warner (the man behind Lithium Picnic). It was a great event, only attended by a small group or models and photographers. Apnea did a great job talking about her modeling career, problems that she faced (and currently is facing), and helpful information for models seeking to build their careers. Philip provided some great information on photography, and some of the lighting techniques that he uses.

We talked in a very limited and "careful" sense about the issues that they have both had to deal with due to the lawsuit brought against Lithium Picnic by Suicide Girls, and about the impending lawsuit being brought against Apnea by Suicide Girls. There was very little that they could actually say due to legal issues in the cases, but those people attending were able to manipulate questions a bit so that some information could be learned without putting either Apnea or Philip on any legal shaky ground.

I'm really happy that we had the chance to attend this gathering, and I'm going to see if we can get them to come back out to Boston in the near future for a larger version of the lecture. :)

04:33 pm - two, count 'em, 2 shows!

i have two openings coming up!

the first is this thursday the 22nd starting at 6pm in the paine gallery at massart. it's the fine arts senior show, so there will be a ton of awesome sculpture, paintings, jewelry, etc. unfortunately because it is such a big show, i can only have one piece in it, and that will be my not-even-done-yet (hopefully tonight) face-detecting-and-tracking robot. however, if you ask nice i'll take you to my studio so you can see the other pieces i've been working on lately (which aren't appropriate for the next show, so they won't be there either).

the other show is at axiom gallery. the opening is in a little less than two weeks, on friday the 30th from 6 until 9pm, and the show will be up through saturday june 21st. the show has a bunch of cool pieces involving electronics, including grass that giggles when you pet it and a typewriter that plays a piano. i'll have the aforementioned robot there, as well as a few older works.

hope you can make it!

11:46 am - Dog Bite

My youngest son was bitten by a dog last night. No it wasn't a stray or a "vicious animal" but a dog on a chain in his own yard.

That said No Jordan wasn't doing the dog anything and yes he had permission to be in the yard.

He was going to play with the kids who were playing in the same yard and apparently got to close to the path of the dog.

The dog grabbed his leg and drug and shook his leg, leaving thee puncture wounds.

When the guy can banging on my front door with a lip child in his arms the first thing I thought was "Oh God he was hit by a car!", second was, "He was in a fight and lost, BAD!"

The guy was nearly in tears himself, saying I couldn't get to him in time... and he was sorry.

We hurriedly got in the car which means I left insurance information here (Good thing Jordan has been in the ER a few times I guess) When we arrived we were again thankful for the handicapped parking privileges I have because of being disabled.

As soon as we walked in the greeter offered a wheel chair and started asking questions... the receptionist's first question was did we call the police... my reply was none to friendly when I said THAT wasn't the first thing on my mind... They have to inform the police... which the owner had done already. Good thing I suppose.

We didn't sit for long...

We never actually saw an ER doc... Part of me finds that odd....

After the interview with the police officer who was very awesome they started numbing him and preparing to clean the wound.

They aren't supposed to stitch dog bites... for risk of infection. He needed them, the dog had apparently pulled the first layers away from his leg which means that when the guy would clean one wound the liquid would come out of the others (Which apparently is not good)

12 stitches later we were sent home with horse pill antibiotics and fresh dressings and told to take ibuprofen and Tylenol for the pain. (My son doesn't respond to those so we give him low dose children's aspirin sparingly)

Needless to say last night/this early morning was filled with tears and pain when he woke up at 3am (It;s been YEARS since I got up at 3am with my boys --- diapers come to mind) After giving him more aspirin I told him stories until the meds eased the pain for him to go back to sleep.

After all this your wondering what will happen to the dog I am sure.

Nothing, the state of Washington gives dogs "one free bite" unless the damage is extensive or results in death. If the animal doesn't have it's rabies shot (Which this one did, he is a pound puppy) the animal must be quarantined 10 days at the owners expense and if it results in rabies it is euthanized at the owners expense.

If this dog has a history of aggressive behavior or bites again it will be euthanized.

Sighs... 12 stitches... all I can say it it could have been worse.

I did take pics of the bite as did the police officer. Mine is on my myspace...

02:50 pm - Intuitive hairstylist?

Here's the deal: I've had the same hairstyle for, oh, about 5 years now. I haven't changed it because it works with my face shape, and I can't find anyone willing to suggest how I should style my hair. Every time I see a stylist, they will only ask what I'm looking for and hesitate/refuse to recommend something different for me that I didn't come up with myself. =/

So, has anyone been to a stylist that is willing to tell them what to do with their hair? And it'd be nice if it didn't cost me an arm and a leg, but I'll pay if that's what it takes! (Also, I have a car, and I am not against driving all over creation for this...) Thanks!

05:27 pm - Wanting to do something BIG!

Okay to everyone I have one question, What can I do to make a massive footprint for us trans people? Doing so I would like to help everyone going down this rocky road. If you can think of anything even setting up events, groups, meets, nights out anything. If anyone with web skill would like to help that would be great. I want to do something for us and make a statement that does not just shout gay bi or lesbian. Event setup a event with live unsigned bands. I really want to do this, I want to try.

Any help?

Thank you

Someone's synopsized the Original Babylon 5 arc from the Vol 15 book, along with notes and comparisons with what we actually got. If you're a B5 fan, it makes for FASCINATING reading.

You want to know what the original plan for B5 was, with Sinclair through it all, and an alternate version of what happen to B4 and this thing called "Babylon Prime" well....

11:09 am - RE-Post from the other day!

I've cancelled my hotel in Dedham, and I am thinking of the Sheraton. Better idea? Location and info here.

By the way I've been speaking to people about Boston, and everyone I know loves your town, but has expressed great concern about the lack of signage to help people get around. How do I over come my lack of direction in your fair city? :D

Publication has ceased for Seeing the Lights. The upkeep of that story has fallen short of the intention and would fall farther if continued, especially if I am going to be focusing on other things. What future it has, if any, is unknown. No further announcements are intended (excepting a public reposting of this one) unless and except in the case of some new definite decision.

07:18 am - fun pics! (X-posted to notall_beauty)

Here are some pictures of when me and the boy (Ty) went to florida and stayed at my dad's to see Sunfest, a big outdoor music and art event with about 5 bands playing. There was all sorts of different music and art and my dad was out of town most of the time so we got to take advantage of his swank apartment. The balcony in his place looked over the festival, so it was awesome. The bad part was that i got ill, so i didn't get to see the Black Crows, which i was really excited to see. Oh well.

There are also some other pics of Ty's new nephew/Godson (Dylan), and some other randomness thrown in.

05:44 pm - "I'm sure they had good intentions"

Lately it seems I have been seeing this or variations with especial frequency (may even have said it once or twice, alas). It also seems to me this is very rarely a helpful thing to say. So far as I am aware, most people do have good intentions and seldom do things out of malicious intent; pointing out the person in question likely had good intentions seems a largely irrelevant distraction since it is not normally in question.

Where it would be helpful to say is I think in situations where it appears a person is being demonised, cast as monstrous in a way which obscures inquiry.

Possibly it would be helpful at this point to state outright that I am not opposed to inquiry into people's motives, but that it is not useful to reflexively defend the motives of a person or people as pure when it is not really in question that they 'meant well', especially when this carries also the implicit suggestion others should be less harsh in response.

11:26 pm - May 16, 2008 - Oenophile (or enophile)

e·no·phile also oe·no·phile (ē'nə-fīl')
n.
One who appreciates and enjoys wine.
A collector of wine.

[Greek oinos, wine + -phile.]

e'no·phil'i·a (ē'nə-fĭl'ē-ə) n., e'no·phil'ic (-fĭl'ĭk) adj.

oenophile. Dictionary.com. The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Houghton Mifflin Company, 2004. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/oenophile (accessed: May 17, 2008).

Example:
The phone rang again and I decided not to answer it. I should have never let Bob know I was an oenophile; he keeps calling to find out what wine goes with various snakes.

Sorry about the delay on this, I have been flying home from vacation (and yes, my arms sure are tired) and just got in.
